Selection procedure

Guide for applicants

The procedure

ACER recruits its staff in line with the provisions of the Staff Regulations and the Conditions of Employment of Other Servants and the applicable implementing rules.

All of ACER’s vacancies are advertised on the ACER website. Approved vacancy notices are published for no less than four weeks before the closing date.

Applicants shall apply with their CVs and motivation letters on the given functional email address. Only applications sent by the closing date are accepted.

Within the Agency, a Selection Committee is nominated which is composed of at least three members; one from the recruiting Department, one from Administration Department and one proposed by Staff Committee.

The Selection Committee reviews all valid applications against the criteria defined in the vacancy notice and select the most suitable applicants in an objective, impartial and transparent manner. Selected applicants will be invited to the written test and interview.

Interview and written test

Invitations to the interview and written test are sent to the e-mail indicated in the application. The interview is held in English, but the knowledge of other languages may also be tested. Native English speakers can also expect to be requested to prove their second language skills. The written test is anonymised and is conducted also in English.

The duration of the written test is between 30 and 60 minutes followed by 30 to 60 minutes interview with an appointed Selection Committee. The duration of both parts of the examination are communicated to the candidates invited to the interview for each position.

Candidates invited for an interview, and/or to a medical examination, may be entitled to financial contribution to or reimbursement of their travel and subsistence expenses. Travel expenses are reimbursed for candidates who have to travel at least 150 km between the place of residence/place of current employment and the place of the test and/or interview or of the medical examination specified in the letter of invitation.

Reserve list and offer letter

Candidates who score above 70% of the total points will be placed on a reserve list, drawn up by the Agency. Reserve lists are valid until the end of the current calendar year and may be renewed upon decision of the Director in the interest of the service.

Placement on the reserve list does not guarantee receipt of the offer letter or recruitment.

It should be noted that the selection process may take several months to be completed and that no information other than the status on current selection procedures will be released during this period. All the candidates will be informed about the outcome of the recruitment procedure.
