What is it about?

The European Union Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) has adopted a Decision on the common rules for cross-border participation in capacity mechanisms. These rules enable electricity providers to contribute directly to resource adequacy in other EU Member States, thus improving security of electricity supply while decreasing costs for consumers.

Mandated by the Clean Energy Package, these rules foster the integration and harmonisation of the internal energy market, allowing the sharing of electricity resources across European countries in the most efficient manner, regardless of their location.
